Getting Started

One of the most important elements of the research process is to share your information with others. Usually this is done after you collect your data and write up your findings and conclusions. However, for this class, you will develop a five- to 10-minute PowerPoint video of your research proposal.

Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to:

  • Prepare a video/audio presentation of your proposal.

Resources

  • Video: Making Videos from PowerPoint Presentations

Background Information

Use the following guidelines to prepare your presentation:

Slides 1–5: Introduce the problem of the study, including:

  • The problem statement, using the problem statement formula
  • A background for the problem
  • A discussion of the theoretical model used
  • A discussion of why this study is significant
  • A discussion of your assumptions, limitations of the study, and delimitations

Slides 6–9: Discuss the literature review, including:

  • A discussion of the studies that pertained to the variables of your study
  • A discussion of the studies that were relevant to your study

Note: When you discuss the studies, use the “Who, When, How, Why, and Four What” approach.

Slides 10–16: Discuss the methodology of the study, including:

  • The design of the study (qualitative, descriptive, or experimental)
  • Research questions or hypothesis of the study
  • The sampling methodology you would use and why
  • The data collection methods you would use and why
  • The data analysis methods you would use and why
  • Any ethical issues for this study

Be sure to include:

  • Visual components (graphics, images, charts, etc.) that reinforce and support the content
  • A background color that is neutral (but not white) and not distracting
  • Slide transitions, fonts and graphics (if included) that do not distract from the presentation
