Post a thread on how you are keeping organized through the process of creating your research proposal. Include tips that can be shared with peers on best practices in completing tasks, staying organized and meeting deadlines.

Attached my Research proposal document.

Some examples:

Example1.

Generally through any project’s process I try to plan ahead and make time for whatever task is needed. This is of course not the easiest thing since most people in this class have jobs, kids, events, etc. going on too. If I know I am booked for the weekend I will be sure to plan to get the work done on Thursday or Friday. This sounds simple enough but I found it is easy to get caught in the procrastination trap unless you make a concrete plan for yourself week to week.

To help motivate myself and keep organized I keep everything within arms reach on my desk at home. When I sit down I don’t have to be distracted by having to get up for anything. I also have the constant reminder to get the work done by having it there staring at me. This might be annoying to others but it helps me keep deadlines and projects in the back of my mind. As of right now I have all the print-outs for my sources in a pile next to my computer ready to sift through. Personally I like physical hard-copies of sources to read through and highlight.

One thing I always tell people is to make backups for everything electronic. BACKUP EVERYTHING. I cannot emphasize this enough. Even if you are diligent about saving documents on your laptop, if the hard drive gets fried everything could be lost. Disasters never wait until it is convenient for you. Personally I use flash-drives and external drives, but anyone could use cloud services or other methods to save their files in a second location. Backing up files also has the side-benefit of forcing you to organize your files, giving you a better idea of what files are where and what they contain.

Example2:

To keep myself organized I truly stay on top of my work and plan out a schedule to keep myself well balanced. Throughout the past year, I have worked for aleading private real estate developer and property management company that owns one of the largest shopping malls in South Jersey. The Macy’s within the mall is one of the most successful within the country. Thus, it explains my problem statement, “As we evolve into the digital age, in-store shopping at Macy’s has been on a drastic decline over the past 10 years. My goal is to research and develop a program that will bring shoppers physically back into Macy’s stores.” I am fortunate enough to receive valuable information from the General Manager at Macy’s, along with understanding their strengths, weaknesses and focuses. I also in contact with the General Managers from JCPenney’s and Sears to understand their current situations, compared to Macy’s.

For my fellow classmates, I would strongly advise you to find a contact that directly deals with your topics on a daily basis. It will allow you to dig deeper in your research and truly get a better understanding of what it’s like to be in that environment.

On a side note, I have been having difficulties saving my documents as .docs. I have Microsoft Office on a Macbook, so naturally my documents have as .docx. On my end they show being submitted properly, but Professor James cannot open them. Though, if I save them as a .doc, I am unable to open them on my end. Does any know how to elevate this issue, so my documents can be viewed properly on both ends. Any suggests would be extremely beneficial. Thank you in advance!
