Qualitative Studies

When discussing qualitative studies, triangulation is a popular theme. Triangulation should be a practice to establish validity of qualitative research. Triangulation encourages checking of theories and comparing ground theory against other findings (Jonsen & Jehn, 2009). As HR managers conduct qualitative research, they should develop grounded theory and check their assumptions against findings of others and against other theories.

Chapter 12

This chapter discusses qualitative research. This type of data is collected and used in research. This information is not numbers and it helps the organization learn to use this data to make sure that the research is supported. Learning to do qualitative research in the right way can help someone be able to use the information for future research. According to Ghauri & Grønhaug (2010)

In qualitative research data collection and analysis are often conducted simultaneously in an interactive way where collected data are analysed, initiating new questions, and initiating further data collection. In ‘traditional quantitative’ research, data collection and analysis are usually sequential. The reason for the continuous data collection and analysis is caused by modest a priori understanding of the problem. As more data (evidence) are collected and analysed the problem becomes gradually clarified. An analogy is the effort of a detective trying to find the person guilty of a crime. (p. 197)

Analytical procedures

According to Ghauri, Gronhaug, and K. (2010), “Through analytical operations the researcher dissects, reduces, sorts and reconstitutes data” (Chapter 12). When I think about this, I mostly think about financial data. But it can be used anywhere because it is analyzing data. With research you want to make sure that you are careful in understanding because there may be other data out there that proves something otherwise. This brings up having valid explanations. It is best to make notes and reference them, but not settling on the first set of data that you arrive at.
