The notion which is being held is that marijuana is harmless hence its access should not be regulated by the state. Presently, Marijuana is one of the illicit drugs which are being used in the U.S. plus other parts whereby in the U.S. there are 12% of the individuals who are 12 years or older have at a point used marijuana in past year and there is a higher percentage of using marijuana among the young people (CBHSQ, 2013). The commonly used way of administering is inhalation. Greenish gray shaded leaf plus the flowers of Cannabis sativa plant are usually smoked in cigarettes, pipes, cigars, and marijuana which is rolled in tobacco leaf wrappers from cigars. Hashish is linked to the product which is made from the resin of marijuana flower as well as smoked but could be ingested orally. Marijuana can also be used in the brewing of tea and the oil-based extracts are mixed with food products. Using marijuana regularly by adolescents is a concern since using the drug by this group is usually disastrous to them and the main cause is usually peer pressure and exposure to the drug (Fergusson & Boden, 2008). There are a lot of studies that indicate detrimental effects while for others there are no effects reported and the question stands is whether the use of marijuana has got harmful effects remains the subject that has to be debated. Effects of using marijuana If one is using marijuana it becomes hard for them to determine the distances besides reacting to the signals plus sounds on roads. This leads to some of the car wrecks being experienced. Tetrahydrocannabinol, an active component in marijuana, interacts with the cannabinoid receptor on nerve cells to affect the cells. There are numerous receptors in some parts of the brain whereas there are few in other parts of the brain. The brain, which values pleasure, thinking, attention, memory, and coordinated movement among other things, has the majority of receptors. When one takes a high dose of marijuana then they will experience hallucination, disorientation plus impairment in the memory. The use of marijuana has got a negative effect on the health of the user. When using marijuana, can affect the brain. This can affect one memory whereby the person that takes marijuana forgets things easily. This can make the individual not be able to realize what is happening around them. For marijuana, it can affect the behavior of the user besides making the individual do things that they are not aware of. When it comes to the case of pregnant women, the research indicates that using marijuana in teen years increase the severity of schizophrenia as well as lowers age onset for the people who are susceptible to that. Using marijuana has got a wider range of effects on the cardiopulmonary system. This results in various problems in the respiratory thus forcing heart to work harder than expected. Marijuana makes the heart beat at 100% more as well within the first hour increasing the risk of a heart attack for the user. Mental health has got dangerous effects. As a result, it can lead to temporary psychotic reactions comprising hallucinations plus paranoia, anxiety, depression, adolescents plus suicidal thoughts. When one uses marijuana it leads to addiction, from the evidence shows that when one uses marijuana for a long term then it is most likely to result in addiction. Close to 9% of the individuals that try using marijuana become addicted. The number is expected to rise where 1 in six people start to use marijuana when teenagers and 25% to 50% of the people that smoke marijuana on daily basis (Hall & Degenhardt, 2009). In a survey conducted in 2012 by the National Survey on Drug use and Health, there were close to 2.7 million individuals who are 12 years and above who depend on marijuana as well as 5.1 million individuals who depend on illicit drugs (CBHSQ, 2013). When it comes to withdrawal there is a syndrome involved with withdrawal whereby the symptoms for this include difficulties in sleeping, irritability, anxiety, dysphoria plus craving that makes it hard for the person using marijuana to quit leading to relapse. In the case of adolescents, it’s usually a problem. Adolescents have got an increased vulnerability to the long-term impact of using the drug which is linked to the brain, comprising the endocannabinoid system develops actively during adolescence (Mechoulam & Parker, 2013). Therefore, regular plus early use of marijuana leads to an increased risk of addiction to marijuana which leads to an increase in the risk of using other illicit drugs. The people that start using marijuana while in adolescence they are 2 to 4 times to have symptoms of dependence on cannabis after 2 years. Finally, the use of marijuana is linked with an increase in depression plus anxiety. It is also linked to the psychoses most likely where people have got preexisting vulnerabilities as well as exacerbates the course of the illness in the patients that have schizophrenia. Heavy use of marijuana, great drug potency as well as exposure at a young age all affects the trajectory of the disease. Conclusion The use of marijuana is a result of the legislation which is in place and people bowing to the pressure mostly adolescents to start using marijuana. Although using marijuana has got its advantage and its negative side, the effects of using marijuana are high and affect individuals greatly negatively impacting their wellbeing and brain functioning. We cannot risk this kind of drug becoming addicted to by our family and friends as a result of medicinal purposes, not in the current era where we have got the technology and other discoveries and alternatives which can be used in curing any medical condition that arises which is an efficient strategy that can be adapted.
