Topic2 DQ2 response to Maria Smith

“Health promotion, enabling means taking action in partnership with individuals or groups to empower them, through the mobilization of human and material resources, to promote and protect their health.”

First of all, what is health? Health: Many definitions, traditionally thought of as the absence of disease; however, a more modern definition encompasses multiple factors, including the ability to cope and continue to live well despite disease states (Falkner, 2018).

A nurse needs to assess the individual and family to promote health since the individual action is going to affect the family as a whole and vice versa. For example, a patient trying to eat a healthy diet might be able to encourage the whole family to do the same, or the family might end up influencing the patient’s diet just the same. Figuring out what health concept means to them would help on where to start the teaching process about promoting health itself. Finding out what is the problem and encouraging what is relevant to promote better health.
