In an effort to give you an assignment that offers some experiential learning, this individual assignment, worth 200 points will offer you the ability to see marketing in action by doing some primary research and analysis of your own.

Your are being assigned this in Week 3. Submit your video by the end of Week 5.

Your video will also be posted to the Week 6 discussion no later than the second day of Week 6. Be sure you have your video ready by the end of Week 5.

Please CHOOSE only ONE activity, with a choice of Activity A, or Activity B, or Activity C:

Activity A

You will visit a shopping mall that has at least five retailers. Describe three retailers in terms of the products or services offered to include their hours of operation, pricing structure, demographics and psychographics of their customers. During your visit monitor the foot traffic, how long each customer visits the retailer and the atmosphere of the retailer’s business. Conclude your video with a comparison of the three retailers. Your video should be 4 to 6 minutes in length with professional sound and video quality. Create your video in MP4 format using the recording application of your choice and post the video in the Discussion Area under ACTIVITY A.

Activity B

Imagine that you recently traveled to another country and noticed that the prices on products were the same prices you paid at checkout. That is, no sales tax was added to the purchase price at the checkout, as it is in the United States. Research and present at least five pros and five cons of value added taxes. Conclude your video describing who benefits from the implementation of value added taxes. Your group’s video should be 4 to 6 minutes in length with professional sound and video quality. Create your video in MP4 format using the recording application of your choice and post the video in the Discussion Area under ACTIVITY B.

Activity C

You will research the psychological pricing tactic of “just-below” pricing, often referred to as “9-ending” pricing because prices end with the number 9 (or 99) such as $9.99, $29.99 and $99.99. Visit a local retailer or an on-line retailer and select five different products and record the price of each product from each retailer. Include in your video what your group has discovered about the variations among the items and retailers with regard to 9-ending pricing and conclude the retailer’s motivation for using this pricing tactic. Your group’s video should be 4 to 6 minutes in length with professional sound and video quality. Create your video in MP4 format using the recording application of your choice and post the video in the Discussion Area under ACTIVITY C.

Note: For all three activities, be sure to relate in your video that you include a detailed application and analysis to marketing principles discussed in this course.
