Please see attached memo and create he basis for an infographic, or informative graphic. Your infographic will combine graphics with text to accomplish one of three goals for a lay audience:

  • define the term,
  • describe a concept, or
  • detail a process for.

A draft of the infographic will be submitted to the instructor and included in the Proposal as a work sample.

A revised version of the infographic will be incorporated with the upcoming instructional document assignment, as either an accompanying graphic or as the canvas for the instructional document.

AUDIENCE AND PURPOSE

Your infographic will define a technical term, concept, or process for a lay audience.

Assume that your readers have a basic, well-rounded education, but no special knowledge of your field, except what they have been able to pick up from popular media.

OBJECTIVES AND REQUIREMENTS

To complete this assignment, you must compose an infographic that:

  • Provides a clear sentence definition of the term, concept, or process from the extended definition memo that appeals to laypeople
  • Gives readers a reason for wanting to know what you are telling them
  • Includes multiple graphics, such as:
    • Icons
    • Illustrations
    • Photos
    • Charts or graphs (or other form of visualized data)
  • Explains the term, concept, or process and in what context it is used;
  • Presents information clearly and logically for the audience it is intended for.
  • Employs background information your readers can reasonably be assumed to have, but make sure that a correct understanding of the material does not rely on their knowing something that they may very well not know. (In other words, if your definition relies heavily on the readers’ understanding of some additional material, make sure your design explains that material unless it is common knowledge for those readers.)
  • Incorporates a composition of your design that applies at least one of the following definition techniques:
    • examples,
    • partition,
    • principle of operation,
    • comparison and contrast,
    • analogy,
    • negation,
    • Etymology/history of the term.

**Do not simply submit an image with a caption. Thoughtfully compose a design that incorporates design elements and principles to convey information.**

FORMAT

  • Document must be submitted as a PowerPoint or Image file with one of the following extensions: .ppt, .pptx., .png., or .jpeg
  • You may construct the infographic element using the word processing, presentation, or graphic design program of your choosing
    • Formatting and design of the infographic version is at your discretion.
