Easy communications discussion questions

1) Find a pop culture example (short video clip or article) where you think a distinct style is particularly apparent. [Note: your example needs to be relatively specific so that you can discuss it at a deeper level later]

2) Describe this style (you can either use the labels from the chapter e.g., directness, politeness, etc. or create your own label) by pointing out the distinct speech features, linguistic devices and/or discourse practices that are associated with this style in your example.

3) Discuss the rhetorical and cultural perspectives of this style in your example. Why does the speaker talk in this way (as a style) and what identities is she or her trying to portray? Does their pre-existing identity affect their conversational style? If so, in what ways?

4) Post your response to the discussion forum and comment on at least 2 other posts from your peers.
