Scenario: Paco

Paco returned from Afghanistan six months ago after being injured by a land mine. He has Traumatic Brain Injury and is homeless. He has come to your homeless shelter and you will serve as his case manager. You are a retired veteran and feel a special connection with him. He knows some of your old friends who served with you. Further, Paco needs help getting around because of his limited mental capacity.

1. Using the above scenario, explain a potential ethical problem that the case manager might encounter in working with Paco. Create some ethical boundaries to help reduce that potential problem.
2. How do case managers use socioecological models to identify and prioritize clients’ needs?
3. What is the purpose of those boundaries in a helping relationship?
4. Explain the importance of a client’s culture to the case management process.
